AUSTIN – Governor Greg Abbott has made significant appointments to enhance student representation in Texas higher education. Effective June 1, 2025, the Governor has appointed eight student regents to various universities across the state. These appointments are set to expire on May 31, 2026, allowing these student leaders to engage in critical discussions and decisions that affect their respective institutions.
In addition to the student regents, a student representative has also been appointed to serve on the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. This role is crucial for ensuring that the student voice is heard in policy-making processes that impact higher education in Texas. The student representative's term will also begin on June 1, 2025, and will conclude on May 31, 2026.
These appointments underscore the Governor's commitment to fostering student involvement and ensuring that their perspectives are integrated into the governance of higher education in Texas. As these new student leaders prepare to take on their roles, they will have the opportunity to influence educational policies and advocate for the needs and interests of their peers.
