Heritage University has set a new fundraising record for student scholarships, driven by the expansion of its Bounty of the Valley events beyond the Yakima Valley for the first time. The university raised over $1.2 million during its annual campaign, surpassing previous highs and marking a significant milestone in its efforts to support students from underserved communities.
The Bounty of the Valley series, traditionally held in Yakima, was extended to include events in Seattle and Tri-Cities this year. Organizers said the move allowed the university to tap into new donor networks and alumni bases, boosting contributions. The funds will directly support scholarships for students who often face financial barriers to higher education, with a focus on first-generation college attendees and those from rural backgrounds.
University President Dr. Andrew Sund said the record-breaking total reflects growing recognition of Heritage's mission to provide accessible education. "This is not just about money," he said. "It is about investing in students who will go on to lead and serve their communities." The campaign featured auctions, dinners, and donor matching programs, drawing participation from local businesses and philanthropists.
Heritage University, located in Toppenish, Washington, serves a predominantly Hispanic and Native American student body. The scholarship fund aims to reduce student debt and improve retention rates, which have been a challenge for many low-income students. Officials said the new record sets a higher bar for future fundraising efforts, with plans to continue expanding the Bounty of the Valley events in coming years.
