Northwest Arkansas homeschool families say Educational Freedom Accounts have expanded their options

Melissa Mitchell never expected to become a homeschool parent. Her oldest son was struggling in a traditional classroom, and the Siloam Springs mother felt she had to try something different. That decision changed the course of her family's education. Now, years later, she says Arkansas' Educational Freedom Accounts program has opened doors she did not think were possible.

The program, which provides state funds for educational expenses, has given families like hers more flexibility. Mitchell said the money allows her to purchase curriculum materials, pay for tutoring, and cover costs for enrichment classes that were previously out of reach. She described the shift as a practical change, not just a philosophical one.

Other families across Northwest Arkansas report similar experiences. Parents say the accounts let them tailor learning to each child's needs, whether that means specialized math programs, art lessons, or science labs.
