TrekNorth Junior and Senior High School has long sought to recognize and honor Indigenous culture through its programming, but this year’s efforts prove a bit more official. Samantha Fairbanks has stepped into the role of American Indian Education Coordinator, bringing a wealth of knowledge and passion for Indigenous education to the school community.
Fairbanks aims to create a more inclusive environment by integrating Indigenous perspectives into the curriculum and promoting cultural awareness among students and staff. Her initiatives include organizing workshops, cultural events, and educational resources that celebrate Native American history and traditions. This role not only enhances the school's commitment to diversity but also empowers Indigenous students by providing them with a supportive and understanding educational experience.
As the school year progresses, Fairbanks is focused on building partnerships with local tribes and organizations to enrich the educational experience for all students. Her leadership is expected to foster a deeper understanding of Indigenous issues and contribute to a more equitable learning environment at TrekNorth.
