The Horological Society of New York is taking its traveling education program to Australia for the first time. The series of classes will land in Sydney this November, hosted in partnership with HODINKEE Australia and New Zealand. The initiative aims to bring hands-on watchmaking knowledge to enthusiasts and aspiring hobbyists down under.
The curriculum covers a range of topics, from basic mechanical watch theory to more advanced skills like movement disassembly and reassembly. Attendees can expect to learn about the history of timekeeping, how a mechanical movement functions, and the proper use of tools. The classes are designed for all skill levels, meaning someone who has never opened a watch case back can join alongside a seasoned collector looking to refine their technique.
The New York-based society has been running these traveling workshops for years, sending instructors to cities across the United States and Europe. This expansion into Australia reflects a growing global interest in mechanical watchmaking. The Sydney sessions will be led by experienced watchmakers from HSNY, offering a rare chance to get direct instruction without needing to travel to the northern hemisphere.
Spaces are limited, and the classes are expected to fill quickly. For those in the region, this is a unique opportunity to get behind the tools and learn from one of the oldest watchmaking education groups in the world.
