UCO President Todd G. Lamb Outlines Strategy Focused on Student Success, Workforce Readiness and Value

University of Central Oklahoma President Todd G. Lamb used his annual Convocation address to lay out a clear set of priorities for the coming year, telling faculty and staff that the institution must sharpen its focus on keeping students enrolled, preparing them for the workforce, and proving its worth in an era of rising costs and shifting expectations.

Speaking to a packed auditorium, Lamb did not dwell on past achievements. Instead, he pushed forward with a strategy built around three pillars: student success, career readiness, and institutional value. He argued that retention is not just about keeping numbers up, but about making sure students feel supported from their first day to graduation day. That means more advising, more mental health resources, and a stronger early warning system for students who start to struggle.

On workforce readiness, Lamb said UCO cannot afford to operate in a bubble. He called for deeper partnerships with Oklahoma employers, more internship opportunities, and curriculum updates that reflect what industries actually need right now. He stressed that a degree should open doors, not just hang on a wall.

Finally, he addressed the question of value directly. With families questioning the return on a college education, Lamb said UCO must be transparent about costs, outcomes, and career earnings. He promised to keep tuition predictable and to make sure every dollar spent adds to the student experience.

The speech was short on applause lines and long on specifics, a tone that seemed intentional. Lamb closed by telling the crowd that the work ahead is not easy, but it is necessary. He asked everyone in the room to hold themselves accountable to the same standards they set for students.
