PHOTOS: Cold can’t stop massive harvest at Rappahannock Education Farm

Despite temperatures hovering in the 40s and persistent winds, the spirit of community and purpose burned brightly at the Rappahannock Education Farm this past Saturday. Undeterred by the cold, a dedicated group of 40 volunteers gathered in White Oak for a massive harvest effort.

Over the course of just four hours, the team successfully collected nearly 2,500 pounds of hearty winter greens and root vegetables. The bounty consisted primarily of kale, collards, and turnips, all crops well-suited to withstand cooler climates. The efficient morning work showcased the power of collective action in supporting the farm's mission.

The event highlighted the farm's role not only in producing fresh, local food but also in serving as a hands-on educational resource. Volunteers engaged directly with the process of sustainable agriculture, from field to future distribution. The successful harvest ensures that this significant yield of nutritious produce will be channeled into the community, supporting local food access programs. The morning proved that a little cold weather is no match for a committed community coming together for a vital cause.
